He attended high school in San Francisco, then enlisted in the Coast Guard for the duration of WW2. He later lived in San Rafael and worked as a commercial artist. As his work shifted to fine art painting, he eventually settled in Carmel, where he established a solid reputation as an impressionist painter and teacher. He worked in watercolor and oil and his subjects included landscapes, figures, and still lifes.
